From Care to Compassion: My Mission in Clinical Ophthalmology

Who I am

My name is Ronaldo Rampoldi Junior, and I am an Ophthalmic Technician with solid experience within the UK’s public healthcare system. I currently work at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and previously served at the renowned King’s College Hospital, where I began my clinical journey in ophthalmology.

Before entering the healthcare field, I built a strong career in technology and customer service, which gave me valuable skills in problem-solving, communication, and client-centred support. These skills now play a key role in my clinical practice, helping me provide reliable, respectful, and well-organised care to patients and teams.

My career transition was driven by a genuine desire to help people, and I found in ophthalmology the perfect balance between technical accuracy and human connection. Since then, I’ve been fully committed to my professional development and to delivering excellent patient care.

What I do

As a technician, I perform a variety of ophthalmic diagnostic procedures, including visual acuity testing, intraocular pressure measurement, visual field assessments, OCT and fundus imaging, and biometry. I regularly support specialist clinics such as glaucoma, retina, and cataract services.

I am currently preparing to offer mobile ophthalmic services in the near future, providing accessible eye care to patients in their homes or care homes. These services will be tailored to individuals with limited mobility or those requiring regular visual function monitoring, in a setting of comfort and trust.

I hold the Care Certificate, which I earned while working at King’s College Hospital — a widely recognised certification that reflects a commitment to safe and compassionate care in clinical practice.

Equipment & Technical Expertise

I am highly experienced in operating a wide range of diagnostic ophthalmic devices, including:

  • Spectralis OCT (Heidelberg Engineering)

  • Topcon Triton and Maestro 2

  • Optos Daytona and Silverstone

  • Clarus 700 (Zeiss)

  • Cirrus 6000 (Zeiss)

  • Tonometry systems: Goldmann, iCare, Reichert 7CR

  • Fundus cameras, autorefractors, Humphrey Visual Field Analyser

I apply both confidence and care in every clinical interaction, always prioritising safety, accuracy, and the patient’s experience.

Recognition & Values

I was nominated twice for the King’s Stars Awards, an internal recognition at King’s College Hospital that honours staff members who demonstrate excellence, integrity, and a positive impact on patient care. These nominations reflect a consistent commitment to high-quality, patient-focused work.

I believe that clinical care goes beyond operating equipment — it requires empathy, attentiveness, and trust. My mission is to be a reliable bridge between technology and people, delivering accessible and respectful eye care, with professionalism and dedication.
